Coffee lovers now have even more reason to rejoice at their favourite beverage. A study that first started over 10 years ago has found that drinking coffee every day could help you live longer. Café Casa takes a closer look at the findings.
What was the study?
Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks in the world, but with contrasting opinions on how it impacts our long-term health a team of academics from Hungary and the UK decided to settle the argument once and for all.
Participants were taken from the UK Biobank at an average age of 56 years old.
22% of these people didn’t drink coffee at all, whilst 58% confessed to drinking up to three cups every day. Those remaining often consumed even more. Not one of these participants had heart disease when the study began, and their coffee drinking habits were followed over a near-11-year period.
So, just what is the long-term effect of drinking coffee?
The findings revealed.
You need wait no longer. Drinking up to three cups of coffee every day could make you live longer, according to the report.
Those who consume this amount on a daily basis are considered to be moderate coffee drinkers, of which they are 17% less likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease. They are also 12% less likely to “die early”, which is deemed to be under the age of 70 years old.
Diving a little deeper into the findings reveals further interesting statistics.
In addition to being almost a fifth less likely to get cardiovascular disease, drinking coffee in moderation also makes you 21% less likely to suffer from a stroke. And you’re less likely to end up diabetic, possibly because coffee helps suppress appetite.
There are a few things to note, however.
It must be ground coffee as opposed to instant, and whilst exceeding three cups of coffee won’t harm you, it doesn’t benefit you any more than consuming up to this amount.
What can we take from this study?
The study shows that drinking up to three cups of coffee a day is actually beneficial to your health, contrary to popular belief.
Sure, the findings only display a marginal benefit of less than 20%, but at least now you can feel even better about your cup(s) of coffee. It was said that drinking coffee regularly could cause an increase in blood pressure, but this simply isn’t true.
It’s worth mentioning that this study was the largest volume of research to date focusing on the cardiovascular effects of coffee consumption, so it’s definitely a strong source!
So, drink up. Whether you prefer to drink your coffee at home, at work, or in hospitality, Café Casa delivers luxury coffee everytime.
