Buy the right amount.
Coffee begins to lose its freshness right after roasting, but you can help prevent spoiled coffee beans by purchasing the amount you need.

Use an airtight container.
Air, moisture, heat and light are coffee beans’ worst enemies.
To preserve their roasted flavour for as long as possible, it is a good idea to invest in an airtight container. And whilst coffee beans can be beautiful to look at and can add to the ambience of any coffee shop, it is best to store them in a cool dark place within an opaque container. Remember, exposure to light can have a negative impact on your coffee beans.
It may also be a good idea to divide your beans into several smaller portions.
Do not freeze.
It’s actually quite common for people to buy their coffee beans in large quantities and then freeze them. Experts agree, though, that this shouldn’t be done.
Freshness is critical to a good cup of coffee, and you should consume your beans as quickly as possible, which is why we suggested buying only what you need and storing them correctly.
Coffee beans are what’s called “hygroscopic”, which means they absorb moisture and odours from the air surrounding them. Freezing your coffee beans may therefore present an unusual smell and taste when consumed.
